Centara Karon Resort
was a perfect choice for our family holiday. It offers a traditional experience with a touch of luxury. We had requested an interconnecting room for us and our two children, 10 & 12 yrs old, which we were allocated around the Tropical Pool.
The rooms were traditionally decorated, which we love. They are a good size with a King bed in our room and 2 x Queen beds in the kids room, the beds were very comfortable and each had 4 pillows to choose from. There was plenty of closet space, a good sized balcony overlooking the pool and a lovely bathroom with large bath, shower and lots of counter space.
We were on the 3rd floor (highest), there was a lift if needed, but everyone used the stairs to walk off breakfast.
The Resort grounds are lovely with well kept tropical gardens, open spaces and hummocks to relax in. There are 2 restaurants to choose from for Breakfast, lunch and dinner, Lotus and Azure. Both are lovely locations and offer a relaxed atmosphere. The staff were all very polite and happy.
Centara Bhat Bonanza: Centara offers a credit initiative that you can accept within 24hrs of arrival, if you pay 10,000 Bhat (AUD440) they will add 5000 Bhat (AUD220) for free to spend in the resort.
We shared lunch around the pool 7 of 9 days with a couple of beers or cocktails + one Traditional Thai Dinner and show for 4 and spent THB 11,500. We will purchase it next time.
I would highly recommend including the Buffet Breakfast in your booking. The Breakfast was amazing! There were options for Asian, European, American, Continental breakfasts. There were Omelettes and eggs made to order, multiple fresh fruit options including exotic asian fruits, yoghurt choices, danishes, pancakes, noodles, stir fry’s, curry’s, create-your-own noodles and soup and so on. Highly recommended.
There are 3 pools:
Lagoon Pool in the middle offers 2 slides, rock tunnels and shallow sections for smaller children. This is a good option for families of younger children, 0-10 yrs. Azure restaurant is right next to the pool and most of the kids activities happen around this pool.
Tropical Pool is bigger and open, this pool suited older families with kids happy to throw the ball with parents or float on a lilo, good for children 10yrs+. This pool is also a much quieter option and usually with more relaxed music playing.
Tower Pool is the Adults Only pool near the front of the resort, lovely, quiet and relaxing!
All pools have Swim-up pool bars and offer menu service throughout the day for pool side dining.
Happy hour is 4-5pm for 2 for 1 drinks at all pools.
There is a kids club in the resort which is free for the first 3 hours each day and then 100 Bhat per child/hour after that (AUD4). They offer movies and games, painting, language lessons, Thai Boxing training, Silk painting, soccer, basket ball and so on. Activities change daily and are mostly free of charge. There are a group of Activities coordinators working in the resort, they organise the games and sports each day. They come around each morning to let the kids know what is on for that day, they are all young, fun and the kids loved them.
Centara offers many daily and weekly activities for their guests. We joined the Traditional Thai night with Thai Boxing display and Thai dancing with traditional Thai dinner. The food was lovely, the dancing was great to watch and the kids really enjoyed the culture. This was 660 Bhat per adult and half price for children 12 and under (AUD25/Ad).
There were Thai cooking classes, free aqua yoga in the Tropical pool, Wake up Yoga each morning, A South American night for 550 Bhat/adult (AUD22/Ad).
The Street Food Night was a highlight, set up out the front of the resort, it offered all the traditional street food, live music, fairy lights and kids disco with activity coordinators.
Centara Karon is in a great location, only 5min walk to the beach if you can tear yourself away from the pools. Right outside the resort gate is a thriving street life with many restaurants, Tailors, Tour and activity desks, small grocery stores, Massage pallors, bars, ATMS, money exchange, and traditional street vendors. Our kids loved the Ice cream rolls and Banana pancakes for desert on the way home each night.

Phi Phi Island Village Beach Resort has launched an exciting new programme of activities for families with older children. Created especially for kids aged 10 to 16, the Young Explorers programme features a series of educational and entertaining sessions that will keep young adults active throughout their stay.
The Young Chef course is held daily and teaches kids how to cook simple Thai dishes overseen by the resort’s chef, potentially sparking a love of the culinary arts. For more active kids, the weekly “Beach Gamer” sessions include a wide range of fun beach sports such as volleyball, mini-petanque and beach soccer.
Youngsters can unleash their inner explorer with a choice of exciting nature-based activities. The Mangrove Explorer activity for example is held every week and allows children to paddle through the mangroves on kayaks and learn more about this enchanting coastal ecosystem.
A Seaside Boot Camp Beach features a series of fun and fitness activities such as yoga and aerobics all held on the resort’s pristine beach, and finally, the monthly Coral Reef Nursery Activity allows Young Explorers to help preserve the resort’s coral reef with a diving or snorkelling trip.
These activities range from one to four-and-a-half hours in duration and are priced between THB500 and THB990 per child. For more information about this action-packed programme, please visit https://www.phiphiislandvillage.com/family-playgroud.phpp
The Young Explorers programme is designed to complement Phi Phi Island Village Beach Resort’s Little Islanders programme, which is aimed at 3-10 year-olds and includes activities such as craft workshops, swimming lessons and recycling. Combined, these two children’s programs provide a full week’s worth of adventures for kids of all ages, from toddlers to teenagers. This allows parents to spend more time simply relaxing and enjoying the peace and tranquility of this serene island paradise, safe in the knowledge that their children are being kept active and entertained in the care of professional supervisors.

Europe is a wonderful choice for a holiday, so many beautiful countries to visit and cultures to experience. Flights from Australia to Europe can be expensive and long, so it is tempting to see and experience as much as possible while there.
However the way we travel is starting to change, travellers are becoming more interested in immersing themselves in culture and feeling like a local rather than ticking a ‘must see list’. Accommodation options in Europe and the UK are changing to accommodate this cultural trend.
When you choose to stay a little longer, there is time to explore all the wonders of your destination without rushing between sites. Explore the areas off the tourist track, find the restaurants known only to the locals. Take the time to relax in a park, observing the daily life in a different country.
Apartments are great for longer stays, as you will have laundry facilities, a kitchen to prepare meals, central locations and you will be living with the locals.
Rent an apartment in the middle of Paris, there are some beautiful authentic options from Studio to 4 bedroom apartments. You can stay in St Germain, I’ll St Louis, Le Marais, around the Louvre, Eiffel Tower or Champs-Elysées. Spend your days walking the gardens, visiting museums, stroll along the Seine, relax with a coffee in a beautiful old coffee house or join a local food tour.
Italy offers some amazing villas for couples or larger groups. Base yourself at a beautiful Villa and spend your days exploring the local towns and countryside. Walk the country lanes, shop at the local market, and discover food authentic to the region.
There are also many options in the UK, France, Greece, Italy, Spain, Morocco and more; from apartments for two or stately homes for lager groups.
Consider staying a little longer the next time you visit Europe, you will be glad that you did.
We all have Hobbies; they help us relax, we look forward to them and sometimes spend a lot of money on them. So why not combine your next holiday with your hobby?
It’s a great way to meet other travellers with the same interests.

They are a great option when travelling as a family; Kids can walk around the train during travel, you can sit together and have a lovely lunch while enjoying an ever changing view, all family members are hands free to play cards or a board game. It is a great way to interact with your family while moving between travel destination.
